Yahoo Organic Search Officially Powered By Bing

Today is an officially exciting day for SEO workers worldwide, because as of today organic Yahoo! search results are powered by Bing, signalling a landmark moment for search and meaning an interesting challenge could potentially be mounted on Google in months/years to come. Paid Yahoo ads are still powered by Yahoo but the entire organic search has finally made the Bing transition. You can confirm this yourself by conducting a search and then scrolling right down to the bottom of the page where you will see the “Powered by Bing” tag- line in the centre.

Bing had the following to say about the completion:

Today I am happy to share that Bing is powering Yahoo!’s search results in the US and Canada (English only for now, the other languages will come in the weeks and months ahead).

So what’s next? We continue to work hard on the migration to adCenter, and are optimistic about completing this phase later this fall. As we have said all along, our primary goal is to provide advertisers with a quality transition experience in 2010, while being mindful of the holiday season.

This is a great milestone for Bing and Yahoo! and our customers, and we are happy to report the transition has gone smoothly and we feel great about the progress our search alliance has been making over the summer.

Yahoo also stated that they are working hard on finalising the revenue model for the Yahoo! Search BOSS (Build Your Own Search Device) program and will be offering other search-related tools for publishers in the months to come.

I have mentioned previously that the Yahoo! – Bing search integration will not impact on SEO, but I am interested in hearing from any SEO workers who experience otherwise, I have already noticed a slight movement in one of my sites today and although it is a positive movement I am hoping it is to do with better SEO rather than the merger.

Happy Binging!
